Is it Worth the Buy? Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

Happy Sunday, friends! Hope you all had a great Black Friday weekend! Today I wanted to share with you my thoughts on one of Too Faced’s most popular products.

The Chocolate Soleil Bronzer is a medium/deep toned matte bronzer with their famous sweet chocolate scent. I got a deluxe size of this when I bought a little trial set with 5 of their best selling products. You all know that Benefit’s Hoola bronzer is my all time favourite so this one had a lot to compete with. I think the overall tone is nice but for my skin tone it borders on being too warm so you have to be careful when applying it.

I find that it looks really nice blended around the temples, cheeks and jawline to wake up your complexion and you can get get away with a really soft and subtle contour if you’re careful to not apply too much. My one complaint is that I find it tough to blend and since it’s such a deep tone that can be a serious issue. Building it up slowly with a fluffy powder brush seems to be the best way to deal with that.

Overall I think it’s a really nice matte bronzer with a fairly good tone. I think it works well in the summer time for those of us with fair skin and could work all year on deeper skin tones. Let me know your thoughts on the Chocolate Soleil Bronzer if you’ve tried it. Thank you so much for stopping by and have a great Sunday.

Best and Worst Drugstore Concealers

Happy Thursday, friends! Today I’m bringing you a best and worst list of a few of the drugstore concealers that I’ve tried. I’ve never done a post like this so be sure to let me know if it’s something you’re interested in!

Concealers aren’t really something I’m super interested in so I don’t tend to try too many out. If I find one that has good coverage, that blends well and that lasts all day then I’m happy. I had heard a ton of hype surrounding the Maybelline Age Rewind concealers so I figured I’d give them a go. I looked around at the display and picked a shade that looked like it would match me the best. For concealers, I use them mainly under my eyes so I want something that is a touch brighter than my skin with a bit of a pink undertone. I thought that the shade Light looked like the closest one to what I wanted. Now I really liked how easily it blended out and I found that it gave decent coverage for such a thin formula. However, the shade was way too yellow to the point where it looked quite strange under my eyes. I also don’t love applicators where you have to click the product up because I find it can get really gunky. Unfortunately, this guy is a pass.

You guys know that the Revlon Colorstay Foundation is my holy grail foundation, so I thought I should try the Colorstay Concealer. Now, finding shades that work for my skin can often be difficult since I am so pale, but when looking at the selection I found all of the options looked really yellow but gave 02 Light a try anyway. First off, I found this guy to end up really streaky once you start to blend it out so it’s tough to get good coverage under the eyes. On blemishes it just kind of blends away to nothing and gives nearly no coverage at all. And just as I had expected, it was super yellow on my skin.

A concealer that I do love though is the Maybelline Fit Me. I have it in the shade Fair and find it to be just pink enough to cover up the blue tones under my eyes but it also matches the rest of my skin really well. I’ve never run into any problems with creasing or fading throughout the day, so this guy is a winner in my books!

Top to bottom: Maybelline Fit Me in Light, Revlon Colorstay in 02 Light, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind in Light.

I don’t have this one anymore but I do want to mention the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch concealers. These guys are really great highlighting concealers so if you’re looking to brighten up the under eye, or any part of the face, they’re great! They blend out super easily and are really nice and creamy.

What’s on your list for best and worst drugstore concealers? Let me know! Thank you all for hanging out today and I’ll see you on Monday!

My On-the-Go Makeup Bag

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you’ve all been doing well and that you had a great weekend! Since the new school year has started, many of us are on the go a lot so it’s important to make sure that you have all of the personal care items you’ll need with you.

I find it easiest to keep everything I know I’ll need in this little makeup bag from Sephora. This way, if you want to switch out your purse, all you have to do is grab this bag and you won’t have to worry about forgetting anything. I always recommend keeping bandaids and hand sanitizer with you. I get blisters all the time and have finally learned that it’s best to just always have several bandaids with you. And hand sanitizer is just a necessity for when you’re on the go–once you start carrying it you’ll be surprised at how often it comes in handy!

Since I usually end up leaving in a rush, I like to keep some products for the finishing touches of my routine. White eyeliner is my go-to for looking well rested so I always keep one with me for touch ups. I also often end up throwing whatever lipstick I’ll wear that day in here, so I keep this universal lipliner since it will keep any shade of lipstick from feathering outside the lines.

As I mentioned, I’ll change out my lip product everyday, but the only lippies that I consistently take with me are my Burts Bees lip balm and a Toyshop Sheer Lip in Applause. For more natural days, this lipstick gives a super nice pink colour that wakes up the face. Any nice tinted lip balm will do the trick! Lastly I keep some Duo Lash Glue since you never know when the inner corner of your lashes are gonna start popping off!

What do you keep in your on-the-go makeup bag? Thank you all so much for stopping by and I’ll see you soon!

Leaving Home for the First Time

Hi everyone! As many of you know, I’ve recently moved away from home to go to University. This is something that I know most of you are either experiencing now or will be in the near future so I figured that I would share some tips that I have to make the transition a little smoother. I moved out almost three weeks ago to live in a student residence at my school. I’m a very independent person so I knew that I would be alright but I was really nervous about leaving my family and my home for something completely new.

The first tip I have is to try and visit the place you’ll be moving to before you go. In March, my University had an open house where future students could come and have a look around. I went with my mum and we got to see where my classes would be, look at the building that I’d be living in and try out the cafeteria food. Even though I only spent a few hours there, getting to see what everything was like made me feel a whole lot better.

My sister is my best friend so leaving her has been really tough on both of us, but something that has really helped is planning visits in advance. My school is about 3 and a half hours from where I’m from so I can come home on weekends when I need to. Before I left, my sister and I sat down and planned out when I’d come home for visits and wrote them out in our planners. Being able to physically see how close your next trip home is makes it seem a lot less overwhelming.

My third tip is to call your residence home. I’ve noticed that so many people will say things like “I’m going back to my room” or “I’ll be in my room” instead of calling it home. It might seem strange, but just referring to it as home will make it feel more welcoming and much less distant. After all, a “room” is like a hotel room where you stay for a few nights and live out of suitcases, if you keep thinking of it like that you’ll never get fully settled.

That leads to my next tip, make it feel like home! Put up decorations, get a cute bedspread, put up some fairy lights–whatever you want! You’re going to be here for a long time and it’s important that you feel that this is a space where you feel comfortable and can study, hang out and relax.

Some decorations I’ve put on my door–sneak peak of an upcoming post!

Something that I was super nervous about was making friends and I felt like there was this pressure of making a bunch of friends within your first few days. Take your time, it’s okay to make friends as you go! I didn’t know anyone that was going to this school so I was going in totally alone. But you’ll find that because most other people are in the same situation, making friends will come pretty easily. Chat with the people that live around you and you’ll be surprised at how many cool people you could meet.

What would you guys give as tips for moving out? I’d love to hear them since I’m totally new at this too! I’m working on a post about how I’ve been decorating my new home so keep an eye out for that! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you soon.

Is it Worth the Buy? Wet n’ Wild Poster Child Palette

Happy Thursday, friends! How has your week been? A few months ago I shared a picture on Instagram of a palette from Wet n’ Wild and you were all super curious to hear my thoughts about it, so here we go!

I spotted this guy in Walmart and was instantly drawn in because of the bright colour selection. I usually go for more neutral looks but I loved the idea of having so many options all together, and since Wet n’ Wild has some of the best formulas available, you can’t go wrong!

As usual, the 8 pan palette is split into two quads. One is more on the pink/coral side and the other is more on the blue/teal side. I personally feel more comfortable using one shade as a pop along with more neutral shadows, but you do whatever you like! This is a great affordable option if you want to experiment with colour without breaking the bank.

The quality of these shadows is absolutely amazing. They are buttery and smooth and are super pigmented. I’ve used them both wet and dry and have always come out with great results. I will say that they can be a little powdery but as long as you tap off your brush and are careful, you’ll be fine. I’ll definitely be reaching for this guy if I want to add a bit of summery fun to my look now that the bitter winter is coming!

What are your favourite drugstore palettes? I’m always looking to try more! Thanks so much for stopping by today and I’ll see you all next time.

Warby Parker Fall Collection 2016

Hi everyone! Fall is coming and that means that brands are bringing out all kinds of new and exciting collections that pair perfectly with cooler, cozier weather. Today I’m working with Warby Parker to announce their new collection, available now!

We’ve all experienced how pricey good quality eyewear is and have maybe even had to pass on getting new frames because it’s just too much. Warby Parker designs glasses in-house to give you better-quality (and super stylish!) prescription frames at a much better price. On top of that, they work with organizations like VisionSpring so that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need.

I find that shopping for glasses can easily be overwhelming since most of the classic frames look the same, while anything more fashion forward can be too edgy for day to day. But in their Fall collection they’ve added really chic subtle details to classic frames so you can still be trendy without going overboard.

What do you have your eye on from the collection? Click the link below to learn more about the frames and how they were designed!

Thank you so much for stopping by and I’ll see you all on Thursday! 🙂

DIY Glitter Letter

Hello friends! How was your weekend? I’m so happy to see that you guys enjoyed my last DIY post so I figured that I’d bring you guys another really simple one today. Crafts like this are great for those of us that are looking to have cute decorations while sticking to a budget.

You will need:
-Foam core board
-Washi tape
-Two colours of fine craft glitter
-Craft glue
-A pencil
-A paint brush

Alrighty, so the first thing you want to do is start tracing a letter onto the board with a pencil. You can make it as complex or as simple as you want. I’m not a super crafty person so I went for a very basic shape just to make things easier. Then you want to start painting your craft glue on the design that you drew. It’s important that you try to keep the edges as clean as possible since the glitter will stick to anything that has glue on it.

Now for the fun–and messy–part! Start to slowly pour the glitter onto your shape, with the darkest colour toward the top fading to a lighter colour at the bottom. Using your fingers, gently press the glitter into the glue. This will help to make your shape really opaque and evenly covered. Tip the excess glitter into a garbage and go over any areas that need more. Now just create a border with some washi tape and you’re set!

I think this is a great way to spruce up a room and would make an adorable gift for someone! I love to hear from you guys so be sure to tag me in pictures of your DIYs! Thank you all so so much for stopping by and I’ll see you next time!

Product Fave: Nyx Eyebrow Cake Powder

Hey everyone! Hope you have all been doing great! Brows have been a huge trend over the past year on Instagram and all across social media. However, it often takes a while for the drugstore to jump in with affordable options that can stand their own against the higher end products. I came across this brow powder from Nyx in December and have been absolutely loving it!

These brow powders are available in 6 different shades, each comes with two brow powders, a brow gel, an angled brush and a spoolie. I have the shade dark brown and I find that the two shades work really we’ll with my colouring. They blend out easily and I’ve never experienced any fading throughout the day. The brow gel is a nice thing to have for travel, though I do prefer a standard brow gel most days.

Overall I think that these are an exciting and budget friendly option for achieving naturally filled in brows. Since they are powders, you have a ton of control as to how bold the final look is.

What are your favourite brow products? I’d love to hear what you’re hoping to see from the drugstore next! Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you on Monday!

DIY Goals Chart!

Happy Thursday, everyone! As many of you know, I am going to be moving away from home for the first time on September 4th so over the past couple of weeks I have been planning out some decor ideas. Today I am going to be sharing with you a super cute way for you to organize your goals for each month. I’m not a very talented person when it comes to crafts so trust me when I say this is easy!

You will need:
-A foam core board
-Sticky notes
-A black Sharpie
-A coloured Sharpie
-A pencil
-Washi tape

To start off you want to cut your board to be the right size. You need it to be big enough to fit three sticky notes up and three across. I made mine larger so that it wouldn’t look too cramped and so I would have space to decorate. Then you want to stick six sticky notes on the bottom portion and one in the top corner.

The sticky note in the corner will say the current month and all of the notes below will be a different goal. Because I am just about to start school again I don’t have a ton of goals for the time being but I would recommend trying to set goals for various parts of your life (school, work, family, social life etc).  Then each month you can replace the notes and write out new goals.

This next bit is optional but I took a silver sharpie and did some cute designs around where each note will go, not only does this look cute but it will help you to put them back in the right spots next time. I also took some washi tape and made a little border around it to clean up the edges.

Goal setting is super important and this is a really easy and clear way to display what you want to accomplish. I have a couple more DIY decor ideas that are coming soon and once I’m settled in I’ll be sure to show you all what my room ends up looking like! I hope you all have a great weekend and I’ll see you soon!

Back To School Makeup Faves!

Hello friends! I’ve always been a huge fan of anything labeled ‘Back To School’ since this has always been a very exciting time of year for me. I am a big believer that you should always wear whatever makes you feel beautiful regardless of what others thing so I always had a tendency to wear much more makeup than my peers. However, for the days when I have a super early class or just don’t want to spend a ton of time getting ready, these are the products I turn to.

I like to start out with the Essence Say No To Dark Circles eye brightener. This is a really nice light pink stick concealer that just does a lovely job of brightening up dark circles so you don’t have to use as much concealer. It’s a step that takes about 10 seconds but will make a huge difference in the final look. Next up I go with my favourite foundation, the Revlon Colourstay for combination/oily skin. It gives a great amount of coverage and looks flawless all day. My go to concealer for under my eyes and on any spots is the Maybelline Fit Me. I have raved on and on about this guy and can’t get enough!

You all know that I love bronzer and my favourite one to warm up my skin and give a subtle contour is Benefit’s Hoola. I like to apply this on my temples, my cheekbones and down my neck with a big fluffy brush for a look that’s natural and pretty. I’ve recently gotten into this L’Oreal Visible Lift Blur Blush. It’s a super strange gel like consistency but when you sheer it out with a brush it gives you gorgeous ‘just in from the cold’ flush. On busy mornings I like to use the L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Hourglass Beige as a highlight since you can quickly apply it with your fingers. I use it on my cheekbones, down my nose, on my brow bone and the inner corners of my eyes to brighten my skin.

The last step for this speedy makeup look is mascara. Maybelline The Rocket waterproof is my favourite mascara ever! It separates, holds a curl and gives a really nice amount of volume! Then I go on top of that with any volumizing mascara. Lately I’ve been loving Tarte’s Tarteist Lash Paint ever since I reviewed it a few weeks back! (Check out that post here!

What are your go to makeup products for a quick Back To School look? Be sure to let me know! Plenty more Back To School posts to come, so stay tuned! Thank you all so much for hanging out and I’ll see you on Thursday!
